AMARILLO -- The city of Amarillo will build a stockpile of sidewalk lights to install downtown via public projects or to resell to private developers launching construction work in the heart of the city.

The Amarillo City Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved the $255,616 purchase of 66 pedestrian lights and replacement parts.

The lights are the double-globe pedestrian lights established as the downtown standard under design zoning rules enacted by the commission last August.

Buying in bulk lessens the individual cost of the lights. The city was able to save $94,384 from an original estimate of $350,000, City Manager Jarrett Atkinson said. (full story)
