AMARILLO -- Five years ago today, Amarillo fine arts patrons celebrated the grand opening of the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.
The center at 500 S. Buchanan St. was hailed as an architectural marvel and a triumph of the city's arts community.
The project began in 1999, spearheaded by a vision and mulitmillion dollar gift of Amarillo businesswoman and philanthropist Caroline Bush Emeny.
The venue remains a centerpiece for cultural events downtown. (
